【Unboxing】F:NEX × POPPRO - Hatsune Miku 2021 Chinese New Year Ver.

Hello everyone, today I'm going to unbox and share with you the Hatsune Miku 2021 Chinese New Year Ver. from F:NEX.

POPPRO, mentioned in the title, is a website dedicated to user-submitted Hatsune Miku-related works, including music, illustrations, and written pieces.
This website is officially authorized by Crypton Future Media (the company that owns the Hatsune Miku copyright).
This Chinese New Year version of Hatsune Miku was illustrated by the popular artist "RenChain" on POPPRO.

I received the item recently, just in time for Chinese New Year, making this timing quite fitting.
Therefore, I absolutely must share this unboxing with you all to experience the festive atmosphere.
(Although it's the 2021 Chinese New Year Ver., it doesn't matter, as long as it feels like New Year! ~XD)

The entire outer box is also filled with a Chinese New Year atmosphere, resembling the common color schemes and patterns of festive gift boxes.
However, the sides are a bit lazy, with the same photo on both.

The overall design is very Chinese, incorporating elements like the May Fourth style dress, cloud shoulders, embroidered shoes, and lanterns.
The hair volume is substantial, so it requires a considerable display space.

Detail Section
To be frank, I personally feel the paint application this time is subpar. I'm not someone who's afraid to admit when I've bought a flawed product.
Some people consider F:NEX a 'hit-or-miss' manufacturer, but I've bought several of their Hatsune Miku figures, starting from the earliest Magical Mirai 2017.
They have indeed been improving, so I don't consider them 'hit-or-miss,' but this Chinese New Year version is really not okay.

The face has a rounder style, so some angles might not look as good.
The small fangs add a touch of mischievous playfulness.

The hair accessories also match the Chinese aesthetic, resembling copper coins and adorned with tassels.
However, there's room for improvement in the smoothness and crispness of the paint application.

The costume design is excellent.
However, the row of Pipa knot-like buttons in the middle, although the mold has created a three-dimensional protrusion,
due to the paint application, it looks like just a red line drawn on, and an uneven one at that.

The interchangeable hand is a surprise but also puzzling.
I don't know why they included an interchangeable hand in the same pose but without the lantern; this hasn't even appeared in official photos.

The hair rendition is decent.
It has plenty of volume while still maintaining a sense of crispness.

The red inner side of the skirt also shows black paint bleed, seriously...

This isn't visible in the original illustration: a small open back.

The legs are probably the least problematic area, and the paint application on the embroidered shoes is also fine.

The lantern at the bottom serves as both a scenic element and a support base.
If you're worried about color transfer over time, you can place a piece of paper between the areas where the thighs and buttocks make contact.

The original illustration design depicts her on water, with lanterns as the surrounding light sources.
This is why the base has ripples and is this orange-red color.

That concludes the overview of the contents.
The overall design is indeed good, but the details are subpar.
Its biggest advantage is probably its seasonal appropriateness, full of Chinese New Year flavor.
Unless you really love this design, I think it's better to just look at the pictures; otherwise, you might feel it's not worth collecting.
Especially since F:NEX is known for its bold pricing...
