LEGO, the Danish toy company, has officially unveiled its latest product in the LEGO Icons series, created in collaboration with world-renowned musician, producer, and fashion designer Pharrell Williams: "10391 Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams"! It is scheduled for release on September 20, 2024, with a suggested retail price of US$109.99.
Why is this set, created in collaboration with Pharrell Williams, themed around a space shuttle? This goes back to his childhood. Pharrell's childhood home, Atlantis Apartments, was often flown over by jet planes. When Pharrell looked up at the sky, the most familiar sight was jet planes. Due to the context of that era, he felt that to travel further, one would need to take a space shuttle. This space shuttle can thus be seen as a physical manifestation of Pharrell's imagination.
This 966-piece set can be viewed as two main components. First is the two-seater space shuttle, featuring a black and gold color scheme that is quite different from previous LEGO space shuttle products. While not large, the space shuttle's exterior is highly iconic, adorned with uniquely colored printed parts on both wings, and a drum-lacquered canopy in the center, giving it a highly fashionable visual appeal. It truly is a space shuttle fit for the Creative Director of Louis Vuitton Men's Fashion. The colorful jet streams supporting the shuttle's flight and the white smoke at the bottom are also very striking.
▼ After lifting the canopy, two LEGO minifigures can be placed inside to ride. These two minifigures are Pharrell and Helen Williams, dressed in space suits.
The other main component of the set is the abacus-style display stand, "My Phriends," which can store 49 LEGO minifigure head pieces! Among these numerous minifigure faces, over 30 designs were created specifically for this set. The top of the display stand can also hold the Williams couple's two minifigures and space helmets.
▼ The Pharrell Williams documentary "Piece by Piece," rendered in LEGO bricks. Will we see this space shuttle appear in the film as well?!
