Japan's TAKARA TOMY toy company's "Studio Series (スタジオシリーズ)" under the "Transformers" theme, following the recent announcement of item number 134 "Optimus Prime", has now unveiled its latest product from the upcoming animated film "Transformers: One": "SS-138 Megatron (メガトロン)"! It is scheduled for release in late February 2025, with a suggested retail price of 4,400 JPY (tax included).
"Transformers: One" is a prequel animated film in the "Transformers" series. It will not only reveal the story of "Optimus Prime" and "Megatron" as young friends before they became enemies, but also explore the origins of the Autobot and Decepticon factions, and more about the Transformers' home planet, "Cybertron".
The protagonist of this toy, Megatron, was originally a labor-class Transformer designated D-16 in the movie's setting, and the best friend of Orion Pax, who would later become Optimus Prime. However, after they and their companions gained new abilities, D-16 began to change. The power-hungry D-16 eventually became Megatron, the terrifying leader capable of rallying numerous Decepticons to battle.
"SS-138 Megatron" is designed based on D-16's appearance after his potential was awakened and he gained the ability to transform. It faithfully recreates the head sculpt and body proportions from the movie's setting, as well as the fusion cannons located on the outer forearms. It can transform from robot mode into an alien-style tank vehicle mode. Both laser guns can be equipped in either robot or vehicle mode, and the main cannon in vehicle mode is incredibly cool. We're looking forward to it!
