BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd.'s HOBBY Division in Japan has partnered with Specimen Research Laboratory (SRL), the plant sub-brand of Japanese fashion label NEIGHBORHOOD, to jointly launch an innovative bonsai art-themed assembly model, the 'SRL X BANDAI SPIRITS . BONSAI MODEL KIT'. The suggested retail price is 30,800 JPY, and it is scheduled for release in March 2025!
Based on the Azuma Goyomatsu bonsai created by Yusuke Hamamoto, owner of Hamamoto Minematsu-en in Japan, and produced under the guidance of NEIGHBORHOOD with BANDAI SPIRITS' latest technology, the 'SRL X BANDAI SPIRITS . BONSAI MODEL KIT' assembly model meticulously recreates the rough bark and woody texture of the trunk using wood-powder-infused resin. The intricate winding lines of the branches are also faithfully reproduced through molding technology, expressing the elements of the bonsai's serene beauty.
Through an exquisite design, four types of pine needle parts for the Goyomatsu are presented, allowing one to savor the delicate and graceful needles and unique sense of balance during assembly, experiencing the artistry of bonsai as it comes together. The moss on the base also meticulously reproduces its fine surface appearance. The base features the original design of a rectangular low pot, embossed with the logos of NEIGHBORHOOD, BANDAI SPIRITS, and SPECIMEN RESEARCH LABORATORY. Additionally, three types of metal wires of varying thicknesses for shaping bonsai branches are included, realistically recreating the effect of using wire to alter the original growth direction of the branches. The overall design outlines an elegant bonsai form rich in charm, exuding traditional Japanese style and condensing the allure of nature in miniature.
