Japanese gashapon toy manufacturer SO-TA announced the latest collaborative product with model maker Kotobukiya, the "ARTIST SUPPORT ITEM Collaboration 1/2 Hand Model / R", scheduled for release in January 2025.
Kotobukiya's "ARTIST SUPPORT ITEM Hand Model" was thoroughly supervised by animator Takahiro Kagami, known for drawing powerful card-drawing hand poses in anime works such as "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters", and produced by Kotobukiya's representative sculptor Hajime Shirahige. Together, they created a beautiful "artistic hand" with human-like articulation. Produced at 1/1 scale, with a total length of approximately 21 cm from the tip of the middle finger to the wrist, the hand model features precise part segmentation and articulated joint design. Not only are all finger joints flexibly movable, but the palm, back of the hand, and wrist joints can also mimic human movements to the maximum extent. Details such as fingernails, skin wrinkles, and palm lines are also meticulously crafted, making it an excellent reference tool for artists who wish to create natural and beautiful hands.
This time, SO-TA collaborated with Kotobukiya to reproduce this ultra-articulated right hand at a 1/2 scale, with a total height of approximately 105mm. Although the articulation segmentation of the palm has been simplified, most of the articulation and the detailed sculpting of the finger and palm lines have been faithfully replicated. It will be available in four versions – gray, skin tone, white, and clear – for 500 JPY each via gashapon.
Concurrently, SO-TA is also releasing a box toy version priced at 1,100 JPY (tax included). This version will include a dedicated display stand and various handheld accessories not found in the gashapon version, showcasing the "ARTIST SUPPORT ITEM Hand Model"'s vivid and excellent articulation. The gray version includes five PT material cards, two plastic coins, and a dedicated stand, while the skin tone version comes with a same-scale mobile phone, stylus model, and a dedicated stand.
