The highly anticipated remake of Stephen King’s "The Running Man," directed by "Baby Driver" filmmaker Edgar Wright and starring Glen Powell, has officially locked in its theatrical release date and announced a new addition to its cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Katy O’Brian, known for her roles in Marvel’s "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," DC’s "Black Lightning," and "The Mandalorian," is confirmed to join the dystopian adaptation.
O’Brian garnered significant attention this year for her performance in A24’s "Love Lies Bleeding" and previously collaborated with Powell in the upcoming disaster film "Twisters."
Paramount Pictures has slated "The Running Man" for a November 21, 2025, release.
The film is an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel of the same name, originally published under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. Set in a totalitarian America in 2025, the story depicts a government that pacifies its disenfranchised populace through violent game shows.

The plot centers on a desperate man, in dire need of money for his ailing daughter, who enters the most popular program, "The Running Man." In this deadly game, a team of killers hunts contestants, with more money awarded the longer a participant survives. However, as the show's producers and hunters soon discover, this desperate man is determined to break all the rules and expose the program's dark secrets. Powell will portray the desperate protagonist, while O’Brian is set to play a fellow contestant on the show.
The original 1987 film adaptation of "The Running Man" starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. The new version's screenplay is co-written by Wright and Michael Bacall, who previously collaborated on "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World."
