BANDAI SPIRITS HOBBY Division in Japan has announced the latest product from the 1/100 scale Gundam plastic model "MG (Master Grade)" series, known for its excellent part separation, internal frame structure, and extensive articulation. The "MG 1/100 Gundam Astrea + Proto GN Twin Broadblades", originating from "Mobile Suit Gundam 00P", is scheduled for release in January 2025. This product will be exclusively sold on the Premium Bandai official online store.
The GNY-001 Gundam Astrea is a second-generation Gundam developed by the private armed organization "Celestial Being" to acquire data for prototype armaments to be used in the next generation. The unit largely inherited the versatility of the first-generation "O Gundam" and successfully implemented a complex structural frame with a range of motion close to that of a human body, becoming the predecessor to the future third-generation "Exia Gundam". The various armaments equipped on the Gundam Astrea, including the "GN Beam Rifle", "GN Beam Saber", "Proto GN Sword", and "Proto GN Cannon", all became the foundation for the armaments of the third-generation Gundams.
The "MG 1/100 Gundam Astrea" is based on the previously released Exia Gundam frame and modified Astrea Type F exterior. It faithfully reproduces the characteristic white, red, and blue color scheme with new molding colors, and similarly features flexible articulation, precise independent GN Drive parts, and an LED light unit built into the chest's solar furnace. Accessories include a rich array of armaments such as the Proto GN Sword, Proto GN Launcher, GN Beam Rifle, Proto GN Shield, and GN Beam Saber.
Furthermore, this product features a completely new large armament, the "Proto GN Twin Broadblades", crafted with entirely new parts. This weapon originated from an original weapon proposal by mechanical designer Kanetake Ebikawa during the development of the "METAL BUILD Avalanche Exia Gundam", and is now being立体化 (rendered in three dimensions) for the first time in a Gunpla product. The two broadblades can not only be used individually as twin swords but can also be combined with the GN Long Blade and GN Short Blade, linking their blades to form a formidable double-bladed greatsword!
