Earlier this month, Christopher Nolan officially locked in his next film project. While plot details remain under wraps, it was announced that Matt Damon, a veteran of Nolan's "Interstellar" and "Oppenheimer," would star in the lead role. Now, the Nolan cinematic universe is set to welcome another new face.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Spider-Man" star Tom Holland is confirmed to be joining Nolan's latest secret film. The project is slated to begin filming in early 2025, but Holland's packed schedule could present a challenge. The report notes that over the next year, Holland will be busy shooting the next MCU "Spider-Man" installment and an "Avengers" sequel, on top of his touring West End stage production of "Romeo and Juliet."
The report also revealed for the first time that the film is reportedly not set in the modern day, though it's unclear whether it will take place in the past or the future. However, a separate report from io9 suggests two competing rumors are circulating within the industry: one describes a helicopter-themed action film in the vein of 1983's "Blue Thunder," while the other points to a 1920s-set vampire horror movie, similar to Ryan Coogler's upcoming film "Sinners."

Nolan has never been one to shy away from potential genre overlap with other creators. The report points out that he wasn't the only director to tackle a Batman film, and his 2006 magic-themed thriller "The Prestige" was released in the same year as Neil Burger's "The Illusionist."
What is certain is that the new project is scheduled for a July 17, 2026 release. Fans are now eagerly anticipating who else, new or returning, will join the cast of Nolan's latest cinematic endeavor.
