Japanese model manufacturer Kotobukiya has announced that the latest product in its new original plastic model kit series, "Megalo Maria," the "Mephisto [Initial Design Color Scheme]," is scheduled for release in March 2025.
The brand-new "Megalo Maria" series marks Kotobukiya's first product with the vast majority of its parts manufactured domestically in Japan. Diverging from previous plastic model kits featuring bishoujo-style human or mecha girl designs, this series adopts the innovative "Marionette Style" body, which boasts a humanoid puppet appearance and prioritizes "articulation" and "expressiveness." Its unique composite worldview, presented as a "play-within-a-play," connects with various other plastic model series released by Kotobukiya, enabling an infinite array of play possibilities.
The returning male character, "Mephisto," now features the highly anticipated initial design color scheme version, which fans have eagerly awaited for commercialization. It is produced using three new molding colors: Hexa Gear Black, Hexa Gear Gray, and Clear Aqua Green, significantly enhancing its compatibility with military-style kits such as "Hexa Gear" and "M.S.G."
Aside from the colors, the specifications are essentially identical to the standard version. The approximately 18 cm tall body boasts a cool physique reminiscent of a comic book hero. With as many as 54 points of articulation, including shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and calves, it features flexible joint designs that allow the figure to perform incredibly supple, lifelike movements such as seiza, hero's pose, cross-legged sitting, and full splits.
Most of the exterior armor features a detachable design, allowing for transformation and equipping scenes akin to Tokusatsu heroes. The wrist joints also incorporate the series' common 180-degree reversible triple joint structure, which can be expanded to connect blades or various weapons to both arms.
