Yesterday (23rd), the LEGO Ideas series from the Danish LEGO toy company unveiled its latest Gift With Purchase (GWP) set, "40698 Books Are My Passion" (tentative translation)! It is expected to be available for free to overseas customers who purchase LEGO products totaling US$130 or more on the official LEGO website and in stores between October 28 and November 11, 2024.
The original design for this creation comes from Polish LEGO fan Anna (Fr_An)'s entry "Reading, Reading and Reading" in the official LEGO IDEAS contest, ME, MYSELF AND I. Anna transformed her passion for reading into an exquisite brick-built scene, incorporating the idea of "what if one day I could dedicate all my time to reading." It features a massive bookshelf filled with books, a comfortable armchair, and a cup of Earl Grey Tea.

The officially commercialized version consists of 285 pieces and, once assembled, stands nearly 13 cm tall. It essentially retains all the important elements from the original scene, including the prominent bookshelf, armchair, small side table, and the cup of Earl Grey tea. However, several minor modifications have been made, such as the colors and stacking method of the books in the bookshelf, the structure and ladder in the lower part of the cabinet, the addition of a potted plant, the color of the armchair, and the smoothing out of the floor's studded texture. The globe piece on top of the bookshelf has also been changed to a minifigure head piece with a globe print.
