Lego Leaves Warner Bros.: Universal Pictures to Build New Live-Action "Lego Universe" with Multiple Films

After The Lego Group concluded its partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, effectively ending "The Lego Movie" 3D animated film series, the company pivoted to Universal Pictures in 2020. The two entities signed a five-year deal to kickstart a new cinematic universe for Lego.

Subsequently, the official "Lego Universe" development plan was formally announced via Deadline, confirming that four live-action films are slated to hit the big screen.

Among the projects is a live-action adaptation of the long-running "Ninjago" brand. Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman, collectively known as The Hageman Brothers, who previously wrote for the animated series of the same name, are set to pen the script. Plot details for the film remain under wraps.

The remaining three untitled live-action Lego films will be helmed by a trio of acclaimed directors: Jake Kasdan, known for "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle"; Patty Jenkins, director of the "Wonder Woman" series; and Joe Cornish, who directed "Attack the Block."
