LEGO 10335 Icons Series "The Endurance": The Ice-Entombed Ship Re-emerges After Nearly a Century as an 80 cm LEGO Set!

Danish toy company LEGO officially announced yesterday (March 7) the latest product in its LEGO Icons series, item number 10335: "The Endurance"! This three-masted wooden sailing ship, which played a crucial role in the "Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition" during World War I, has now been immortalized in LEGO form. It is scheduled for release on November 29, 2024, with a suggested retail price of US$269.99.

The Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, also known as the Endurance Expedition, commenced in 1914. Led by Irish polar explorer Ernest Henry Shackleton, it involved 27 crew members embarking on humanity's first attempt to traverse the Antarctic continent. However, just one year after setting sail, in January 1915, the Endurance encountered massive ice floes in the Weddell Sea off the Antarctic Peninsula and was unable to break free. After ten months of being trapped and continuously crushed by the ice, the Endurance sank to the seabed. Following the miraculous survival of Shackleton and all his crew, this ship, submerged in the harsh and unpredictable Weddell Sea, was finally discovered in 2022.

This LEGO rendition of the Endurance comprises a total of 3011 pieces. Once assembled, it reaches an astonishing length of 80 cm and a height of 47 cm. In addition to fully recreating the three masts, ten sails, the flag fluttering at the stern, and the rigging connecting the masts, the detailing of the hull, the ship's name ENDURANCE and the North Star, and the multi-layered decks with stairs are exquisitely crafted. The deck also features easily removable sections, allowing enthusiasts to enjoy the interior cabins and engine. Furthermore, this Endurance set includes four detachable lifeboats, a chained bower, and a steerable rudder. Coupled with a wooden-effect display stand and nameplate, it is truly magnificent!

▼ An 80 cm length is truly impressive! If you have enough space, you might consider displaying this Endurance alongside the earlier 135 cm long "10294 Titanic."

▼ The nameplate, fitting the wooden sailing ship's aesthetic, boasts an exquisite design.
