Recently, we brought you the Danish LEGO toy company's 2025 Chinese New Year themed sets, "80116 Rotating Lantern" and "80117 Good Fortune Arrives". Today, we continue by introducing new additions to the richly Chinese-inspired "Monkie Kid" series: "80065 Erlang's Celestial Mech" and "80066 Mythical Creature Qilin"! They are scheduled for release on January 1, 2025, with suggested retail prices of US$89.99 and US$69.99 respectively.
First, let's look at Erlang's Celestial Mech, which boasts 806 pieces and stands approximately 43 cm tall when assembled. The overall color scheme features golden yellow, gray, and white, complemented by a black fabric cape. Design highlights include a feathered headdress crafted from three white vine-like elements, dog-head decorations on both shoulders, golden wheel-rim armor on the outer thighs, and an imposing golden spear. The cockpit is located in the chest, allowing Erlang Shen to be placed inside, while also offering detailed dashboard elements. With its articulated joints and stud shooters on the back of both hands, this cool mech, combining mythological and mechanical elements, offers excellent playability. Other minifigures included are Monkie Kid, Monkey King, Master Tang, Erlang Shen, and a Celestial Soldier, along with a black Howling Celestial Dog piece.
Next is the Mythical Creature Qilin, with 791 pieces, measuring nearly 30 cm long when assembled. The Qilin's body is constructed using a generous amount of gold and two shades of red, accented with vibrant teal and yellow elements. Personally, I find its design to be incredibly cool, and it would likely look fantastic displayed alongside the "80112 Auspicious Dragon" that we previously reviewed! In addition to posable limbs, an opening mouth, and an adjustable tail, the Qilin also features stud shooters. Furthermore, in line with the Monkie Kid story setting, it includes a two-person saddle that can transform into a flying device.
Beyond the Qilin itself, this set also includes a cloud that can be posed in a floating state using transparent stand elements (if you have them), Pigsy's food truck equipped with a stud shooter, as well as LEGO minifigures of Monkie Kid, Mei, Sandy, Pigsy, a Celestial Soldier, and Sandy's cat, "Mo."
