The popular mecha musume model kit series 'Frame Arms Girl', produced by Japanese model manufacturer Kotobukiya, has officially announced a brand new sub-series, 'GRANDE SCALE'. The first product in this series will once again feature the iconic character 'Gourai', with an anticipated release in April 2025.
The 'GRANDE SCALE' series re-designs Kotobukiya's past model kit CAD data into large-scale products. By enlarging each part, not only are details more clearly visible, but the difficulty of assembly, painting, and customization is also reduced. Furthermore, it allows for compatibility with larger mecha and weapons from other Kotobukiya series for customization.
The first product, 'GRANDE SCALE Gourai', is an enlarged version based on the previously released "Gourai Kai Ver.2". It has been re-designed from its original 15 cm size into an approximately 1/6 scale model kit, standing about 26 cm tall. The body proportion is similar to common 1/6 scale doll products on the market, allowing not only for plastic model customization but also for finding suitable fabric clothing for Gourai.
Some parts are not merely enlarged; the abdominal and shoulder armor, for example, have been redesigned with new part divisions, utilizing different molding colors to reproduce color blocks. The wrist armor, which originally had noticeable seam lines, has been redesigned for an almost seamless assembly. Additionally, the three pre-printed face parts – "front-facing face", "right-facing face", and "innocent face" – have been finely adjusted for details such as eyelash thickness, presenting a more natural appearance at this larger scale.
Due to the enlargement, the expansion ports on various armor parts have been changed from the original 3mm to 5mm. However, dedicated adapter parts for 5mm to 3mm holes are included, allowing for customization with Kotobukiya's 'M.S.G' and 'Hexa Gear' series products.
Kotobukiya is currently also developing the second product, 'GRANDE SCALE Innocentia'. With Innocentia's unarmored limb parts, Gourai and future Frame Arms Girls can be converted into a bare body form, giving the Frame Arms Girls a playstyle more akin to 1/6 scale doll bodies.
