BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan is set to release its latest product from the anime "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY", the "RG 1/144 Akatsuki Gundam (Oowashi Pack)", on December 14, 2024. Ahead of its release, official new information including the product's box art design and actual sample images have been unveiled.
The ORB-01 Akatsuki Gundam is the flagship MS of the Orb military, constructed by the Orb national enterprise "Morgenroete Inc.". Designed based on data from the "GAT-X105 Strike Gundam", it utilizes a backpack exchange system similar to the "Striker Pack", allowing it to switch between the "Oowashi Pack" for atmospheric use and the "Shiranui Pack" for space. Furthermore, the machine's dazzling gold coating is not merely decorative; it is the beam-reflecting mirror armor "Yata-no-Kagami", which allows it to remain virtually unscathed even when hit by a battleship's "Positron Cannon". However, the construction cost of this machine was extremely high, leading to the project being frozen after the prototype was completed in C.E. 71, though Morgenroete Inc. secretly completed it with the latest technology.
The "RG 1/144 Akatsuki Gundam (Oowashi Pack)" incorporates intricate detailing and color separation into the 1/144 scale. The entire model features three different shades of gold-plated exterior armor parts, and through multi-faceted shaping, the light reflection angles are adjusted, allowing the "Yata-no-Kagami" coating on the surface to exhibit a brilliant luster. The movable inner frame utilizes some parts from the Strike Gundam, combined with pull-out shoulder joints, torso side-sway, interlocking armor mechanisms on the limbs, and movable nozzle designs on the shoulders and legs, providing extremely flexible articulation.
Armaments include a beam rifle, shield, and beam sabers. The "Oowashi Pack" on the back also features intricate detailing, faithfully reproducing its cool thruster structure, and can be separated from the main body for individual display. Multiple sections, including the nose and beam cannons, feature deployment mechanisms. The multi-stage articulation of the main wings allows for free changes in its silhouette, and when combined with the Akatsuki Gundam, it can recreate the firing pose holding two "Type 73F Kai High-Energy Beam Cannons".
