Paramount has not yet revealed whether director Jeff Fowler, who helmed the first three films, or Jim Carrey, who plays Dr. Robotnik, will return for the next installment. They did confirm that "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" is slated for a Spring 2027 release. Beyond the "Sonic the Hedgehog" series' escalating box office success, the third film has debuted with an impressive 87% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, garnering widespread critical acclaim. Most critics praised its excellent entertainment value, with many also hailing its narrative as the most refined in the series to date.
