The film adaptation of the bestselling novel "It Ends with Us" has been embroiled in controversy since its summer release, with ongoing reports of conflicts between star Blake Lively and director-star Justin Baldoni. Lively recently filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, alleging sexual harassment and media manipulation. Despite the off-screen drama, the film has been a box office success, grossing $340 million, which has not diminished author Colleen Hoover's standing in Hollywood; in fact, adaptation offers for her other works have only increased.

Last month, it was confirmed that Hoover's novel "Verity" would be adapted into a film. Michael Showalter, who previously collaborated with Anne Hathaway on "The Idea of You," is set to direct, with Hathaway also starring. Recently, Josh Hartnett and Dakota Johnson have been confirmed to join the cast.
Before "Verity" was greenlit, another of Hoover's books, "Regretting You," was also announced for a screen adaptation. Josh Boone, director of "The New Mutants," is attached to direct, with Allison Williams, Dave Franco, and Mckenna Grace set to star. These three adaptations are currently spread across different studios: "It Ends with Us" is with Sony Pictures, "Regretting You" with Paramount Pictures, and "Verity" with Amazon MGM Studios.

The plot of "Verity" follows Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson), a struggling writer facing financial hardship, who accepts a rare job opportunity: to complete the unfinished work of Jeremy Crawford's (Hartnett) late wife. Jeremy's wife, bestselling thriller novelist Verity Crawford (Hathaway), died in a mysterious accident, leaving her popular book series incomplete.
Upon arriving at the Crawfords' luxurious estate, Lowen discovers an unfinished, secret manuscript that may expose the family's chilling past. Gradually, Lowen uncovers more and more unsettling anomalies hidden beneath the surface. As Lowen attempts to connect with Jeremy and his young son, Crew, she must discern whether Verity's writings are merely disturbing fiction or the ominous warnings of a deranged mind.
