The mystery surrounding Christopher Nolan's next self-penned and directed film has been unexpectedly unveiled. Universal Pictures made a surprise announcement on X (formerly Twitter) earlier today, revealing that Nolan's next project will be an adaptation of Homer's Greek epic, "The Odyssey," with the film sharing the same title. This news diverges completely from previous rumors and speculation—which ranged from a period vampire drama to a helicopter-based police thriller—and marks a departure from Nolan's signature sci-fi and realistic action genres into the realm of fantasy and Greek mythology.

The all-star cast currently confirmed for "The Odyssey" includes Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong'o.

The film is slated to begin principal photography in the first half of next year, targeting a worldwide release on July 17, 2026. In its announcement, Universal described the project as a mythological action epic filmed with the latest IMAX technology across multiple countries. This will also mark the first time the story of "The Odyssey" has been brought to the big screen in the IMAX format.
