Ryan Gosling, who for a long time focused primarily on independent films, has recently embraced major commercial blockbusters, leading a string of mainstream hits including "Barbie," "The Gray Man," and "The Fall Guy." While rumors of Marvel Studios inviting him to join the MCU persist, it appears Gosling might opt for the "Star Wars" universe first.

The Hollywood Reporter (THR) exclusively reported today that Gosling is in talks to star in a brand-new "Star Wars" film, which will be directed by Shawn Levy, known for "Deadpool & Wolverine." Details regarding his character remain under wraps.

Levy has been developing the project since 2022. Jonathan Tropper, who previously collaborated with Levy on "This Is Where I Leave You" and "The Adam Project," has been penning the script for a year. However, Gosling's sudden strong interest in the film has significantly accelerated its previously slow development, with production now slated to begin this fall.

If successful, this would not only be Levy's next directorial endeavor but also the next "Star Wars" film to enter production. Renowned industry insider Daniel Richtman previously revealed that the movie is expected to commence filming in the UK this year.

This isn't Gosling's first connection to the "Star Wars" franchise. Back in 2013, rumors circulated that he was being considered for a pivotal role in the sequel trilogy, potentially even Kylo Ren, a character later portrayed by Adam Driver. Currently, there is no further information available regarding the film's plot, with THR only emphasizing that it will be a standalone spin-off.
