The hype has been real ever since the announcement of 2025's hottest Gundam anime, "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX," a dream collaboration between Studio Khara (of "Evangelion" fame) and Sunrise (the legendary studio behind "Mobile Suit Gundam"). Even its theatrical preview, "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-," which compiles select episodes, has already crushed it at the box office.
But hold up! Today (February 2), the official team dropped the second wave of character designs, and fans are absolutely losing it! That mysterious green-haired Zeon officer everyone was buzzing about in the trailers? Turns out, it's none other than the OG "Mobile Suit Gundam" character, Sharia Bull! This drastic character redesign has sent netizens into a frenzy, making it a trending topic on X.
▼ Sharia Bull (シャリア・ブル) is now a trending keyword on X.
For those who need a refresher, Sharia Bull (シャリア・ブル) made his debut in the original "Mobile Suit Gundam" anime, even getting his own dedicated Episode 39, titled "Newtype, Sharia Bull." Captain Sharia Bull was the very first Newtype, known for leading the energy fleet that brought Helium-3 resources back to the Principality of Zeon. Jupiter, a massive planet that never quite became a star, was a key focus for space development and resources, earning Sharia the moniker "The Man Who Returned from Jupiter."

Here's the kicker: even though Sharia Bull looked pretty seasoned in the original "Mobile Suit Gundam," he was actually only 28! Now, with this brand-new design, only five or six years should have passed in-universe, but he's suddenly looking incredibly dashing and stylish. Fans are hilariously questioning if this is even the same guy!
(For context, "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" is set in U.C. 0085.)
Before this reveal, Japanese netizens had affectionately dubbed him "Midori no Ojisan" (the green old man). Who knew he was actually Sharia Bull all along?
Of course, character glow-ups aren't unheard of in the Gundam universe; Cucuruz Doan from "Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island" also looked quite different from his original design. But hey, fans generally agree these changes make them look even cooler!
It seems "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" is truly packed with new secrets from the Universal Century. Fans are undoubtedly hyped for the premiere, eager to see what kind of mind-blowing experience this dream team-up between Khara and Sunrise will deliver!
