Deadline indicates that Hawke will co-write the screenplay for the new film with Shelby Gaines. Gaines previously penned the script for Hawke's last directorial effort, "Wildcat," and also contributed sound design to Hawke's musical biopic "Blaze" and composed the score for the Western "The Kid," in which Hawke starred. While Hawke is currently only attached as a writer and producer for the new "The Gunfighter," his ultimate goal is to officially take on directing duties once the script is finalized.
Hawke has openly shared that "The Gunfighter" is one of his most beloved and influential films. This project undoubtedly represents both a dream come true and a deeply personal undertaking for the acclaimed actor and filmmaker.
