Hey Pokémon fans, you know what "Pokémon Day" is all about, right? Every year on February 27th, we celebrate the anniversary of the original Pokémon Red and Green games, a date officially recognized as Pokémon Day since 2020. And you know what that means – tons of special events and projects!
This year, The Pokémon Company just dropped some massive news (on February 6th)! They're teaming up with none other than "CoMix Wave Films" – the legendary animation studio behind cinematic masterpieces like "Your Name," "Weathering With You," and "Suzume" – to create a special Pokémon Day 2025 commemorative animation titled "Dragonite and the Postman" (カイリューとゆうびんやさん)! Mark your calendars: This epic short will premiere on February 27th at midnight JST on the official Pokémon YouTube channel.

The animation follows Hana (ハナ), a young girl from the Paldea region who dreams of becoming a top-tier postman, just like a Dragonite. One day, she stumbles upon a letter with no recipient. So, she and her trusty partner Fuecoco embark on an adventurous quest to find the sender. Their journey takes them through bustling cities and breathtaking natural landscapes, eventually leading them to a boy named Rio (リオ).
Turns out, the letter is from Rio to his dad, who works in the Kanto region, a birthday wish he desperately wants to deliver. But here's the kicker: By the time they find Rio, his dad's birthday has already arrived...

Adding to the emotional depth, the theme song "Paper Airplane" (紙ひこうき) is performed by suis, the lead vocalist of the acclaimed music duo "Yorushika." The music itself is composed by Evan Call, known for his work on the NHK Taiga drama "The 13 Lords of the Shogun" and the anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End," promising to elevate the animation's touching atmosphere.

While it's expected to be a short film, the fact that CoMix Wave Films is at the helm, coupled with the stunning key visual showing the protagonists soaring through the sky with Dragonite, means we're in for some absolutely gorgeous scenery. Get ready for another visual feast, and keep an eye out for its official release!
