Actor Hidetoshi Nishijima, known for iconic roles in "Love White Paper," "The Smile of the Law," "Ooku," the film "Drive My Car," and "Kamen Rider BLACK SUN," has been a fan favorite since the 90s. His friendship with game creator Hideo Kojima has even led him to participate in ACG events like Tokyo Game Show.
Yesterday (Feb 6), Nishijima dropped a bombshell on his personal Instagram, revealing he hit the theaters to catch the advance screening of "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX," the latest Gundam anime set for 2025. He even shared pics from the scene, completely "undisguised" – and fans went absolutely wild!
In his post, Nishijima also casually dropped, "Guess I'm starting my original Gundam rewatch again!" Was that a subtle spoiler, perhaps? Either way, that little tidbit unexpectedly sent fans into a frenzy! The comment section exploded with reactions like, "Wait, Nishijima-san, you watch anime?!" "You're a Gundam fan? Seriously, never saw that coming!" and "My respect for him just shot through the roof!"
But beyond the shock of discovering his "Gundam fan" identity, what truly blew netizens away was that he showed up at the cinema completely undisguised, just chilling like a regular moviegoer. For a star of his caliber, that's practically unheard of!
Seeing photos of him smiling in the cinema lobby, fans flooded the comments: "You mean you could actually run into Hidetoshi Nishijima at the movies?!" "No way this is real?! The people there must've been absolutely floored!" "That's gotta be Hibiya, right? I was just there the other day... totally missed my chance to meet him!" "If I saw him at the cinema, I'd probably stop breathing from nerves." "I want to live in a universe where I go to watch Gundam and just happen to bump into Hidetoshi Nishijima!"
What can we say? Even after 30+ years in the spotlight, Hidetoshi Nishijima continues to radiate an incredibly down-to-earth vibe. His interactions with cosplayers at Tokyo Game Show previously earned him massive praise, and honestly, you just gotta admire the guy.
