Ridley Scott's next directorial effort, the sci-fi feature "The Dog Stars," has added a trio of new stars to its cast: Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, and Guy Pearce. Pearce previously worked with Scott on the "Alien" prequel "Prometheus." This casting news follows last month's announcement that Jacob Elordi would take over the lead role from Paul Mescal due to scheduling conflicts.

Penned by "Twisters" screenwriter Mark L. Smith, "The Dog Stars" is a post-apocalyptic virus disaster film adapted from Peter Heller's 2012 novel of the same name. Set in the near future, the story unfolds after an unnamed pandemic devastates American society. It follows Hig, a civilian pilot, his dog, and Bangley, a gruff former Marine, as they lead a solitary existence at an abandoned Colorado air base.

Despite their clashing personalities, the two rely on each other to fend off roaming invaders. Hope ignites for Hig when his 1956 Cessna plane's radio picks up a random signal, hinting at a better life beyond their strictly controlled borders. Risking everything, Hig decides to follow the faint message, flying out of the border in search of new hope. Elordi will portray Hig, with Brolin as Bangley. Qualley and Pearce are set to play a father-daughter duo residing on a ranch.
