Since its debut, Houbunsha's anime hit Bocchi the Rock! has been an absolute sensation, racking up insane popularity and buzz. Even after its first season wrapped, the hype never died down, and last year's compilation movie saw fans flocking to theaters. Naturally, everyone's been on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting news about a second season.
Well, the wait is officially over! Today (February 15), during Kessoku Band's "We will B" TOUR live performance, the official announcement dropped: Bocchi the Rock! Season 2 is officially in production! They even revealed the production staff and a special teaser video. No premiere date yet, but hey, we'll take it!
▼ The moment the news hit, "Bocchi the Rock! Season 2" immediately shot to the top of Japan's X (formerly Twitter) trending topics!
Let's be real, it's been a long two years since the first season of Bocchi the Rock! wrapped up back in December 2022. While the official team kept us fed with events, compilation movies, and even live tours across the country, concrete news about a second season remained elusive. So, today's announcement is a massive relief, and fans everywhere are absolutely ecstatic!
Now, for a quick note on the staff shake-up: While CloverWorks is still at the helm for animation production, there's a change in the director's chair. Keiichiro Saito, who directed the first season, is stepping down, with Season 1's assistant director, Yusuke Yamamoto, taking over. Word on the street is Saito is swamped with directing the second season of "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End," so he's entrusted the reins to the highly capable Yamamoto. But don't sweat it – character designs and screenplays are staying with the original Season 1 team, so you know it's in good hands!
