During today's "Dengeki Bunko x ABEMA Super New Year's Thanksgiving Winter Festival Online 2025" event on ABEMA, Dengeki Bunko dropped a bombshell: a fourth season of the hit anime series "A Certain Scientific Railgun" is officially in production! But that's not all – the spin-off novel "A Certain Dark Side's Coexistence" (とある暗部の少女共棲) is also getting a TV anime adaptation. Teaser trailers for both were released simultaneously.

"A Certain Scientific Railgun" is a spin-off of Kazuma Kamachi's light novel series "A Certain Magical Index." It follows the daily adventures of Mikoto Misaka and her friends in Academy City, a metropolis where psychic abilities are highly developed. The first season of the TV anime aired in 2009, followed by the second in 2013, and the third in 2020.
Fans are undoubtedly no stranger to the iconic opening theme, "Only My Railgun." For the fourth season, Tatsuyuki Nagai returns as director, Kiyotaka Haimura is back for character original designs, and J.C.STAFF will once again handle animation, keeping the core team from the previous three seasons intact.

The spin-off novel "A Certain Dark Side's Coexistence" (とある暗部の少女共棲) is the latest addition to the "A Certain Magical Index" universe, launched in March 2023. It centers on "ITEM," an elite Academy City dark side unit composed of four girls, with their leader, Shizuri Mugino, as the protagonist. The Japanese edition currently has four volumes. While details on the anime production team are still under wraps, it has been confirmed that Ami Koshimizu, known for voicing Holo in "Spice and Wolf" and Kallen Kozuki in "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion," will voice Shizuri Mugino.
