Masaaki Yuasa Departs Science SARU, Launches New Animation Studio "ame pippin Co., Ltd."

Masaaki Yuasa, the visionary director behind hits like "Inu-Oh," "Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!," "Night Is Short, Walk On Girl," and the groundbreaking "Devilman Crybaby," just dropped some major news today (2/18): He's launching his very own animation studio, "ame pippin Co., Ltd." This move also marks his departure from Science SARU, the acclaimed studio he co-founded with producer Eunyoung Choi.

Word is, ame pippin Co., Ltd. is already set to dive into planning collaborations with industry heavyweights like Asmik Ace, Aniplex, and CoMix Wave Films.

And it's no surprise, given Yuasa's long-standing relationships with these powerhouses. Asmik Ace, for instance, worked on Science SARU's "The Heike Story." Aniplex is, well, Aniplex – a titan in the anime world. And CoMix Wave Films? That's the home of none other than Makoto Shinkai himself.

Yuasa actually stepped down as Science SARU's representative director back in March 2020, passing the torch to co-founder Eunyoung Choi. And just last May, Science SARU itself was acquired by Toho, becoming a subsidiary under their massive umbrella.

With Yuasa's legendary status, it's hardly a shock that even at nearly 60, he's still driven to craft projects entirely in his unique style. The big question now is: what incredible new worlds will "ame pippin Co., Ltd." bring to life? We're definitely hyped to find out!
