McDonald's Japan Teams Up with Hatsune Miku for "Shaka Shaka Potato" Ad, Fans Go Wild for Adorable Miku!

McDonald's Japan has been on a wild creative streak on social media lately. They dropped a promo song video for their "Cream Croquette Burger" featuring hololive's Sakura Miko, and more recently, an ad music video inspired by Teto Kasane's song "Tetris." Their out-of-the-box marketing just keeps getting crazier!

Now, to hype up their latest "Shaka Shaka Potato" (シャカシャカポテナゲ), they've teamed up with none other than VOCALOID superstar Hatsune Miku! The new ad video, featuring an absolutely adorable Miku shaking up her fries with seasoning powder, instantly blew up online.

The video also dropped on February 22nd, "Cat Day," and features Miku sporting adorable cat ears as she vigorously shakes her fries and seasoning powder in the "Shaka Shaka Potato" bag. The loading screen animation is ridiculously cute, and with music produced by VOCALOID P daniwellP, the whole package is just purr-fect!

(The illustrator is Hamafugu, who also previously drew the character for "Imadake Dabuchi Tabemi.")

Fun fact: McDonald's Japan actually used the same song, video style, and even the same illustrator for their "Shaka Shaka Potato" promo last year. The only difference? This year, they swapped out the original character for Miku!

Unsurprisingly, as soon as the ad dropped, tons of Miku fans flocked to McDonald's today to grab their "Shaka Shaka Potato." Talk about an effective campaign!

McDonald's Japan has also teased an unexpected surprise for March 9th, "Hatsune Day." Clearly, they know a thing or two about marketing!

While it's "just" an ad for "Shaka Shaka Potato," McDonald's Japan's creative genius is undeniable. Their endless stream of wild ideas is getting increasingly meme-worthy. Seriously, what's next for them?!
