Looks Absolutely Delicious! Illustrator's Obsession Creates Hyperrealistic "Grilled Salmon" Rock Art, Netizens Drool: "I'm Starving Just Looking At It!"

We're pretty sure many of you out there have dabbled in art, and you know that your canvas isn't just limited to paper. With the right tools, any surface can become a stage for your creative genius.

Recently, Japanese illustrator Ojikaori (@ojikaori) shared a series of photos on X, documenting the incredible transformation of a single rock from "raw salmon" to a perfectly "grilled salmon" fillet. Not only does the rock's shape uncannily resemble a salmon slice, but the vibrant orange flesh and the deliciously charred skin are rendered with such exquisite detail, you can almost smell the smoky aroma! Netizens were absolutely floored by the hyperrealism.

Ojikaori often collects rocks from riversides and beaches to paint, and this salmon-shaped stone was a serendipitous find during one of her treasure hunts. She immediately thought, "This is totally a salmon fillet!" and excitedly brought it home to show her family, only to be met with a rather lukewarm response. She emphasized that the most crucial part of such a project is to "strike while the inspiration is hot," so she dedicated an entire day, focusing intently, to complete this "grilled salmon."

She used acrylic paints, meticulously focusing on the charred effect of the fish skin, believing that "the soul of grilled salmon is that perfectly charred skin!" To achieve the ideal char, she scoured the internet for countless photos of grilled salmon, carefully studying the layers of browning. Ultimately, she adopted a technique of "first painting the fresh fish skin, then layering on the charring and grill marks, one by one," to achieve this incredibly realistic effect.

Her exceptional painting skills garnered widespread praise from netizens, with many feeling like the aroma was wafting right off their screens.

Ojikaori has also worked with clay, creating gradually forming "niboshi" (dried sardines). The bottom-most one in the photo is a real niboshi, further showcasing her truly realistic artistic prowess.

Receiving such acclaim from netizens, she expressed that this is simply her passion and she hopes to share more fun creations in the future. But honestly, this grilled salmon is so realistic, almost no one would guess it's a rock just by looking at it. Maybe it could be a fun prank to play on family and friends! XD
