Academy Award-winning director Francis Ford Coppola, known for "The Godfather" trilogy, self-financed and raised over $100 million for his epic film "Megalopolis." Following its release last year, the movie grossed just over $14 million worldwide, drew widespread negative reviews, and took home two major awards at the 45th Golden Raspberry Awards.

Despite this significant setback, Coppola remains undeterred. He has consistently stated that he never made "Megalopolis" for profit, firmly believing the film will stand the test of time and that its critical reception will eventually turn around. Beyond hoping for a reversal of fortune for "Megalopolis," he has already begun preparing for his next project.

In a recent interview on the podcast "Tetragrammaton" with Rick Rubin, Coppola revealed he has settled in the UK after a recent move and is now in pre-production for his next film, "Glimpses of the Moon". Coppola admitted that "Megalopolis" resulted in substantial financial losses, but this doesn't seem to be stopping him from moving forward. He stated, "It's like Noël Coward remaking an Edith Wharton novel in England, which is why I moved to England. I'm actually in pre-production now. But I have no money because I invested all the money I borrowed into 'Megalopolis.' That money is basically gone. I think maybe in 15 to 20 years it might come back, but I can't do it now, so I have no money. I have to make this film at a very low cost, and that's what I'm doing now."

Part of the plot for "Glimpses of the Moon" is adapted from Edith Wharton's novel of the same name and is also inspired by Leo McCarey's "The Awful Truth". Coppola had previously described the film as a peculiar 1930s-style musical, originally intended to be quite expensive. However, the financial difficulties stemming from "Megalopolis'" reported nine-figure loss have evidently forced Coppola to compromise on the budget. Coppola also mentioned that he has already shot some footage for "Glimpses of the Moon," and that his current residence is not one he purchased or rented, but rather a home lent to him by a friend he knows from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
