Keanu Reeves' brainchild, the comic series "BRZRKR," became an instant hit upon its debut four years ago, quickly becoming Boom! Studios' best-selling comic in nearly a decade. That same year, Reeves partnered with Netflix to adapt "BRZRKR" into both an animated series and a live-action film, with Reeves set to voice the animated character and star in the live-action version. After four years in development, the "BRZRKR" film adaptation has finally found its director: Justin Lin, the acclaimed filmmaker behind "The Fast Saga" installments 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9, will helm the project.

This isn't Lin and Reeves' first collaboration, as Reeves is one of the investors behind Lin's latest independent directorial effort, "Last Days" (pictured below). The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this past January and is slated for a limited theatrical release in North America on September 25th this year.

The initial concept for the "BRZRKR" comic originated from Reeves' own creative vision. After successfully pitching the publishing plan to Boom!, he invited writer Matt Kindt to co-write the story, with illustrator Ron Garney and others handling the artwork and overall visual creation. Last July, Reeves further expanded the "BRZRKR" universe with the release of the spin-off novel "The Book of Elsewhere," co-written with British fantasy author China Miéville.

The protagonist of "BRZRKR," known simply as B, is an 80,000-year-old demigod. With the bloodlust of his war-god father coursing through his veins, he has spent his immortal life struggling with an uncontrollable urge to fight. The comic's plot primarily follows B, who, now living in the United States, strikes a deal with the government: in exchange for performing dangerous missions, they must help him uncover the mystery of his existence and find a way to end his eternal life.

Both the animated series and the live-action film adaptations are being written by Mattson Tomlin, showrunner for "Terminator Zero." Release dates for both projects have yet to be announced.
