Can you believe it's been 20 years since Hiroshi Sakurazaka's light novel, "All You Need Is Kill," hit shelves, illustrated by Yoshitoshi ABE? Well, get ready because today (March 13) it was officially announced that the sci-fi classic is getting an anime adaptation! While it's still TBD whether it'll be a TV series or a movie, a killer teaser video and concept visual have already dropped.
First released as a light novel in 2004, "All You Need Is Kill" later got a two-volume manga adaptation by the legendary Takeshi Obata in 2014. If the title still doesn't ring a bell, you might know its Hollywood blockbuster counterpart: the 2014 sci-fi flick "Edge of Tomorrow," starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, was famously adapted from this very story!
This new anime project is set to be directed by Kenichiro Akimoto, known for his art direction on "Poupelle of Chimney Town." And for the animation studio? None other than the critically acclaimed STUDIO4℃, the masterminds behind visually stunning works like "Tekkonkinkreet" and "Children of the Sea."
According to the director, this anime aims to break free from both the original novel and the film's narrative, offering a fresh reinterpretation of the story. Expect a deep dive into Rita's inner world, exploring her solitude, struggles, and the profound growth she experiences after her fateful encounter with Keiji. It's promised to be an entirely new experience!
