The OG Magical Girl is Back! Pierrot's First New TV Anime in 26 Years, "Magical Sisters LuluttoLily," Set for 2026 Premiere

When you hear "Magical Girl" anime, your mind probably jumps to iconic series like "Sailor Moon," "Cardcaptor Sakura," or even "Pretty Cure." But the studio that truly kicked off the craze and cemented the genre's status was none other than Pierrot Co., Ltd. (also known as Pierrot), with their "Pierrot Magical Girl Series" back in the 80s.

Last June, Pierrot dropped a bombshell, announcing a new TV anime – the sixth installment in the "Pierrot Magical Girl Series" – after a whopping 26-year hiatus! Fans were absolutely buzzing. Today (March 14), the official title for the new series was revealed as "Magical Sisters LuluttoLily" (tentative translation, 魔法の姉妹ルルットリリィ), confirmed to premiere sometime in 2026.

The "Pierrot Magical Girl Series" first enchanted audiences in 1983 with "Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel" (魔法の天使クリィミーマミ). This groundbreaking series even cast idol singer Takako Ohta as the protagonist's voice actress, quickly spreading its fame beyond Japan to countries like Italy and Taiwan.

At the time, "Creamy Mami" was revolutionary, bringing to life many young girls' dreams: singing on stage as a pop star, wearing dazzling outfits – a unique blend of fantasy and idol culture that hadn't been seen before. Subsequent series, including "Persia, the Magic Fairy," "Magical Star Magical Emi," "Magical Idol Pastel Yumi," and the fifth installment in 1998, "Fancy Lala," all continued this enchanting style, essentially laying the groundwork for the entire magical girl genre.

To celebrate this exciting new announcement, the official team has unveiled a special "commemorative visual." Masterfully crafted by prop stylist Ayumi Endo, this symbolic image blends iconic toys from past Magical Girl series with a flood of nostalgic memories.

The new "Magical Sisters LuluttoLily" will transport viewers into a fantastical magical kingdom. The official reveal includes character designs for two mysterious figures from this realm: "Uguisu" and "Azuki"! While their detailed backstories are still under wraps, their enchanting, whimsical style is already clear.

You might not be familiar with these classic series, but if you're a fan of magical girl anime, they are absolute must-watch classics. While only a 2026 premiere window has been confirmed, get ready to see what kind of buzz this original magical girl powerhouse will generate!
