Dig In! Classic Anime Characters Like "Chibi Maruko-chan" & "Naruto" Share Mealtime Joy in New Japanese Food Ads

Japan's premier food information website, "Hot Pepper Gourmet," just dropped a brand-new ad campaign, hitting screens nationwide on March 17!

This time, they're shaking things up with an innovative blend of live-action and animation, bringing together beloved characters from classics like "Chibi Maruko-chan," "Osomatsu-san," "Tensai Bakabon," and "Naruto." The ads perfectly capture these iconic figures enjoying delicious food, weaving in their unique worldviews and personalities, much to the delight of fans.

The campaign, themed "Let's Eat!" (ごはん、いこっ。), aims to rekindle our appreciation for the simple joy and value of dining out by showcasing those blissful mealtime moments.

To make the ads truly resonate, Hot Pepper Gourmet enlisted these timeless anime characters, adored by generations. Coupled with meticulous set design and that fresh live-action/animation hybrid technique, each spot beautifully highlights the characters' distinct universes.

▼ "Maruko and Grandpa's Episode"

Maruko and her Grandpa Tomozo bravely venture into a high-end sushi joint! Seeing Maruko happily gobble down sea urchin, Grandpa beams with paternal pride. But when Maruko, without a second thought, orders another serving, Grandpa's expression instantly shifts to a hilariously complex mix of love and slight panic – a scene straight out of "Chibi Maruko-chan"!

▼ "The Osomatsu Sextuplets & Papa's Episode"

The grown-up Osomatsu sextuplets are out for drinks at an izakaya, only to find themselves seated right next to Papa from "Tensai Bakabon"! The conversation quickly gets wild and wonderfully nonsensical. Osomatsu can't help but muse, "Drinking with strangers is surprisingly fun!" This kind of absurd chaos? Totally on brand for these guys (lol).

▼ "Naruto and Iruka Sensei's Episode"

The classic "Naruto" duo makes an appearance! Naruto sits before a steaming bowl of Ichiraku Ramen, eyes welling up as he asks Iruka Sensei, "Sensei, have you ever been so frustrated you couldn't sleep?" Iruka Sensei simply watches him, silent, as their precious teacher-student bond shines through in that poignant moment.

(By the way, "The Osomatsu Sextuplets & Papa's Episode" actually has seven versions, with each of the seven characters delivering a unique monologue.)
