Anime powerhouse TRIGGER, affectionately known as "Trigger Inc.," announced at last year's Anime Expo 2023 in Los Angeles that they had acquired the original rights to the anime "Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt" from GAINAX, confirming a new anime production was underway. This July, the new anime's title was also confirmed as "New PANTY＆STOCKING with GARTERBELT" (tentative title).
At AnimeJapan 2025, held on March 22nd, it was officially confirmed that "New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt" is set to premiere in July 2025, along with the release of a teaser visual and character promotional video.
"Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt" was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, known for his work on "Neon Genesis Evangelion," "Gurren Lagann," and more, and co-created with Masahiko Otsuka, Kazuya Masumoto, and others. Its distinct American-style aesthetic not only captivated Asian fans but also successfully broke into Western markets.
The series is known for its explicit content and dark humor, with explosion scenes in the latter half of the story filmed using live-action tokusatsu techniques. Each episode's title sequence is a homage to classic American and Japanese films, making it truly unique.
This time, two brand-new characters have also been teased: Polyurethane, voiced by Yuto Uemura, and Polyester, voiced by Junya Enoki.

For "New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt," it's no surprise that Hiroyuki Imaishi is back in the director's chair. The series composition is handled by Hiroyuki Imaishi & Hiromi Wakabayashi. Original character designs are once again by Atsushi Nishigori, who worked on the original. Character design is credited to Shigeto Koyama, Sushio, Hisao Ishizaki, and Masaru Sakamoto, with Shigeto Koyama also in charge of art direction. The team largely consists of original staff members and current TRIGGER talents, and of course, the animation is being produced by TRIGGER.
After 14 long years, this highly anticipated new installment is sure to have fans buzzing with excitement. We'll be eagerly awaiting more official announcements, hoping to see a fresh take on Panty & Stocking make their grand return in the Reiwa era!
