Last year marked the 20th anniversary of the beloved magical girl series, "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha," and the official team promised a slew of major projects to celebrate.
Fans were hyped when, late last year, it was announced that a brand-new anime, "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance," was in the works. Now, at AnimeJapan 2025, we've finally gotten a peek at the new teaser visual and the production crew behind it! While an air date is still under wraps, the excitement is definitely building.
This marks the first new anime for the series in over six years, following the 2018 theatrical film "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation." For long-time fans, seeing Nanoha return with a fresh animated project in the Reiwa era is undoubtedly a huge win! How this new "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance" will connect with previous storylines remains to be seen, so we'll have to keep an eye out for more official updates.
As for the dream team bringing this to life: Masaki Tsuzuki, the original creator, is also handling the script. Takayuki Hamana, who previously directed "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation," is back in the director's chair. Kazunari Arakaki is on board for character design and serving as chief animation director. And the animation itself? That's in the capable hands of Seven Arcs, known for their work on the "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha" series, "DOG DAYS," and "Tonikawa: Over the Moon for You."
But wait, there's more! "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS" is also getting a manga adaptation. Masaki Tsuzuki, the series' original story concept creator, is penning the story, with Shuichi Kawakami on art. The manga is set to kick off its serialization on Kodansha's "Wednesday Sirius" starting April 16, 2025. It looks like this new Nanoha saga will be a dual-media project, delivering on all those 20th-anniversary promises!
Judging by the manga visual, this new chapter will follow a 13-year-old Nanoha Takamachi as she enters her middle school years. She's looking pretty grown-up already, huh? XD
While official info is still a bit scarce, with the manga launching in April 2025, it's a good bet the anime could also premiere sometime in 2025. Fans eager for more Nanoha action should definitely stay tuned for future announcements!
