Japanese gyudon chain Sukiya has recently been plagued by foreign object contamination issues. Following a "mouse contamination" incident at a Tottori Prefecture branch, a "pest" was reportedly found in a product at the Akishima-eki Minami branch in Tokyo. In response, Sukiya announced that nearly all its nationwide locations, excluding some within shopping centers, would temporarily close from March 31 to April 4 for extensive pest and rodent control measures.

Customer Reports Pest Contamination, Store Temporarily Closes
According to Sukiya's official statement, the incident occurred at the Akishima-eki Minami branch in Akishima City, Tokyo. A customer reported finding a pest while dining. Upon learning of the situation, the branch manager immediately apologized to the customer, offering a refund and product recall. The store voluntarily ceased operations around 5 PM on March 28 to investigate the cause of the contamination. The company emphasized that it has contacted a professional pest control company to conduct thorough disinfection and prevent similar incidents.

Series of Contamination Incidents Leads to Large-Scale Sukiya Overhaul
Just recently, Sukiya had issued a statement acknowledging that a mouse was found in miso soup sold at its Tottori Minami Yoshikata branch in Tottori City in January. This incident sparked widespread discussion across the country and significantly impacted the brand's image. The new pest issue further erodes consumer confidence.
To thoroughly address the foreign object contamination problem, Sukiya has decided to implement large-scale rectification measures. From 9 AM on March 31 to 9 AM on April 4, almost all branches will temporarily close for pest and rodent control operations to ensure food safety.

Regarding the continuous contamination incidents, Sukiya's official statement read: "We deeply apologize for the trouble and anxiety caused to our customers and related parties. We will make every effort to improve our store environments to provide a safer dining experience."
