As one of pop culture's most iconic secret agents, James Bond is an idol to global audiences and a national hero for many Britons. However, not everyone shares this widespread enthusiasm, including Academy Award winner Helen Mirren.
Mirren, who recently filmed the crime drama "Mob Land" with "fifth-generation Bond" Pierce Brosnan, stated directly that she has never been a Bond fan. "I've never liked Bond, but I really admire Pierce Brosnan; I'm a huge fan. Obviously, he's very handsome, and I think he was excellent in 'Mob Land.' He's also one of the friendliest people you could ever work with. And of course, Daniel Craig too; I've met him a few times and know him a bit, and he's also a very kind person."

Mirren continued, saying that the entire Bond franchise "is not my cup of tea; I really don't like it. I've never liked Bond, and I've never liked how women are portrayed in the Bond series." Mirren also admitted her opposition to a future female version of Bond, instead suggesting that stories about real-life historical female spies should be told. She explained that "the entire concept of James Bond is rooted in deep sexism, but women have always been a very important and central part of intelligence agencies. They always have been, and they are incredibly brave. If you hear about what women did in the French Resistance, you understand how unbelievably courageous they were. So what I really want to tell are the true stories of extraordinary women working in that world."
