Originally a tokusatsu TV series by Toei in 1982, Space Sheriff Gavan later got a movie adaptation 20 years later in 2012, solidifying its status as a truly iconic tokusatsu masterpiece.
Now, "Jutaro," the in-house brand of Kurita Sangyo Co., Ltd.—a venerable Japanese foundry established way back in Meiji 23 (1890)—has announced a stunning new product. They're crafting a high-quality pure tin sake cup (guinomi) inspired by Gavan's signature mask! Priced at 12,430 JPY, this collectible is already available at the official Toei online store and the Jutaro showroom in Shizuoka City.
The 1982 Toei tokusatsu TV series, Space Sheriff Gavan, centered on the titular cosmic lawman fighting for Earth. Its enduring popularity led to a feature film in 2012, cementing its legacy as a classic.
With its distinct world-building and character designs, Gavan carved out its own niche, separate from the Super Sentai and Kamen Rider franchises. Its massive success even influenced the aesthetic of Hollywood's RoboCop!
This pure tin Gavan mask sake cup is a testament to artisan craftsmanship, meticulously recreating every detail of Gavan's iconic helmet. It's not just a drinking vessel; it's a striking display piece that commands attention in any home, perfectly blending practicality with stunning aesthetics.
Tin, a metal revered since ancient times, is believed to make sake taste smoother and more mellow. Each of these cups is carefully handcrafted by Jutaro's skilled artisans, making every piece not just a sake cup, but a work of art.
And that's not all! Each cup comes with an original Gavan-themed menko and a special display stand. For the uninitiated, menko is a classic Japanese traditional toy from the Showa era, similar to the card-flipping game seen in "Squid Game." Players place their opponent's menko on the ground and use their own to strike it, winning if they manage to flip the opponent's card over (rules may vary by region).
The custom display stand ensures that this sake cup isn't just for drinking; it's also perfect for showcasing in your collection.
It even arrives in a dedicated paulownia wood box, emblazoned with Gavan's iconic image and logo.
