Capcom's highly anticipated new title, Monster Hunter Wilds, made a massive splash on Steam on its release day, and over a month later, countless players are still deep in the hunting craze. Beyond the thrill of the hunt, many netizens are finding another layer of fun by recreating real people or beloved anime characters in the game's robust character creator.
Recently on X (formerly Twitter) in Japan, user Timote (@imoteidecodeco) took on the challenge of bringing "Captain Dola" from Studio Ghibli's 1985 classic, "Castle in the Sky," to life in the game. The incredibly high-fidelity recreation has earned massive praise from netizens, with many clamoring to get their hands on the character's look.
For those unfamiliar, Captain Dola is the formidable leader of the Dola Gang, a notorious group of air pirates, and the captain of their airship, the "Tiger Moth." Around 50 years old, she and her three sons, along with their crew, make a living by robbing other airships. While she's a ruthless character who stops at nothing to achieve her goals, her softer side emerges as she secretly cares for the safety of Pazu and Sheeta, eventually helping them reach the legendary city of Laputa.
Timote's post was accompanied by Dola's iconic line, "You've got 40 seconds to prepare!", along with a video showcasing their character creation in the game. Even without her signature pigtails, the uncanny resemblance in her demeanor and, notably, her nose, had netizens absolutely floored.
Given the realistic character models in Monster Hunter, the creation truly looks like "what Captain Dola would be like if she were real, or if there was a live-action adaptation!"
Even with the hair not being a perfect match, countless netizens instantly recognized her. To bring such a classic character from "Castle in the Sky" to life with such high fidelity in a game is truly impressive!
Of course, this also highlights how everyone in Monster Hunter Wilds is experimenting with all sorts of wild character creation ideas. Maybe it's a character creation game first, and a monster hunting game second?!
