X User Drops 80,000 Yen on Dior Jeans, Gets Fruit Gummies Instead – And It's Not an Isolated Incident!

Most of us have dabbled in online shopping, usually sticking to sellers with stellar reviews or official channels to ensure a smooth, scam-free experience. But sometimes, even the savviest shoppers get caught off guard.

Recently, X user soshi (@0vyrx) shared a truly wild tale of their recent Mercari shopping nightmare. They shelled out nearly 80,000 yen (that's roughly $500 USD!) for a pair of Dior Homme jeans. Imagine the anticipation! But upon opening the package, all they found was a single bag of generic fruit gummies – not a trace of denim anywhere. Speechless, to say the least. This bizarre incident quickly blew up on Japanese social media, revealing that soshi wasn't the only one who'd been hit by the "gummy scam."

Soshi was, understandably, furious. The seller completely washed their hands of it, blaming Mercari's logistics for the mix-up and claiming zero responsibility for the "fruit gummies." Mercari's customer service initially dragged their feet, leaving soshi utterly frustrated.

However, once the story gained massive traction on X, Mercari finally stepped up, promising a full refund and expressing deep apologies for such a scam occurring on their platform.

Turns out, soshi's story wasn't unique. Another X user chimed in, revealing they had bought a Pokémon card worth over 20,000 yen online, only to receive – you guessed it – fruit gummies! Talk about a bitter taste.

Even more shocking? Both incidents were traced back to the same Mercari seller.

Experienced netizens quickly jumped in with advice, stressing the golden rule: NEVER hit "complete transaction" until you've received and verified your order. Otherwise, the platform releases funds to the seller, making it a nightmare to recover your money if something goes wrong. "As long as you haven't confirmed, the platform can still intervene," one user advised. "Film an unboxing video, provide evidence, and report it to the platform – you usually have a good chance of getting your money back."

This whole sticky situation serves as a stark reminder: when buying high-value items online, especially on secondhand marketplaces, always proceed with extreme caution and choose your sellers wisely!
