All films in this new trilogy will be titled beginning with "28 Years." The first part hits North American theaters on June 20. The sequel, "28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple," is scheduled for release next year on January 16, with Nia DaCosta ("The Marvels") taking over as director.
Synopsis: 28 years later, a group of survivors is living on an island connected to the mainland by a heavily guarded causeway. When one of them leaves the island for a mission into the dark heart of the continent, he uncovers secrets, wonders, and horrors. These new discoveries reveal that the virus has mutated not only the infected but the survivors as well, as it has found a way to persist within its hosts.
The sequel trilogy has an average budget of $75 million per film. This first installment was shot entirely on an iPhone 15, making it the most expensive movie ever to be filmed exclusively on a smartphone.
