Amazon has acquired two major intellectual property franchises, both with new projects currently in development. One of these is the "Highlander" series. While Lionsgate had been developing a new reboot for several years, Amazon and MGM are now taking over the project. The previously announced cast and crew remain unchanged, with Henry Cavill still set to star and "John Wick" series director Chad Stahelski still at the helm. Michael Finch, co-writer of "John Wick: Chapter 4," is penning the script.

Sources indicate that Stahelski's vision for the future of the "Highlander" series is better suited for Amazon's platform. This transition was amicable and is expected to benefit all parties involved.

The other IP Amazon has taken over is the "Pacific Rim" series. Amazon will now be responsible for distributing the live-action prequel series, which was announced last year.

Eric Heisserer, known for writing "Arrival," serves as both writer and executive producer for the series, with Legendary Entertainment once again producing. Legendary previously partnered with Netflix for two seasons of the animated series "Pacific Rim: The Black." However, this upcoming prequel will mark a return to live-action. Additionally, Variety, which exclusively reported this news, revealed that Legendary has not ruled out the possibility of a third "Pacific Rim" feature film.
