Written and directed by "Black Panther" filmmaker Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, "Sinners" officially hit theaters in multiple countries last week, immediately garnering widespread critical acclaim and a robust box office debut. The film clinched the top spot at the North American box office in its opening weekend, surpassing "A Minecraft Movie"—another Warner Bros. Pictures release now in its third week. Despite being in its third week, "A Minecraft Movie" continues to show strong momentum with a remarkably low drop-off, pulling in over $48 million and pushing its global cumulative gross past $720 million.

The North American opening for "Sinners" also marks the highest debut for an original film in the region in nearly six years. The last original feature to achieve such a strong opening was Jordan Peele's horror hit "Us", which also featured a predominantly Black cast and crew, earning $71 million in its first week. However, "Sinners" saw a comparatively weaker international performance, bringing in only $15.4 million. Combined with its North American take, the film's global box office currently stands at approximately $64 million.

With a production budget estimated at nearly $100 million before marketing costs, industry analysts suggest "Sinners" will need to gross close to $300 million worldwide to turn a profit. This target will undoubtedly require significant support from international markets, leaving Warner Bros. Pictures hopeful for strong overseas turnout.
