Back in late March, Bandai Namco Entertainment dropped a bombshell during a Nintendo Direct, announcing the latest entry in the classic mecha strategy series, Super Robot Wars Y. Naturally, veteran fans of the franchise were absolutely stoked.
Then, last night (April 20), during the "Super Robot Wars Series Info Bureau" online broadcast, the official release date for Super Robot Wars Y was revealed: August 28! They also unleashed the second promotional video, showcasing the full roster of participating series. But one particular entry has everyone scratching their heads and buzzing with excitement: Godzilla Singular Point. Yep, "Godzilla joins SRW" immediately became a trending topic!
▼ After the broadcast last night, "Godzilla joins SRW" even became a trending keyword on X.
The Godzilla making its debut in this game is none other than "Godzilla Ultima" from the 2021 anime series, Godzilla Singular Point.
In the anime, its appearance is an evolution of the original Godzilla, but with a strikingly more dinosaur-like, almost skeletal, forward-leaning posture. Its legs are incredibly thick, its skin is armor-like and heavily wrinkled, and its white dorsal fins extend diagonally upwards, each with a tube running through it, resembling a pulsating red blood vessel. It unleashes a devastating atomic breath, fixed by several "rings of light" type barriers, capable of incinerating Tokyo in an instant.
Now, Godzilla Singular Point already features robot characters like Jet Jaguar and Mechagodzilla, so its inclusion in a game like Super Robot Wars isn't entirely out of left field. However, the King of the Monsters making its first appearance has left many fans exclaiming, "Godzilla joining SRW is seriously over-the-top!" Even the live stream's chat was flooded with shocked comments!
Considering Godzilla and Jet Jaguar had an epic showdown in the anime, everyone's now hyped to see what kind of story unfolds when Godzilla stomps into Super Robot Wars.
Some fans are already cooking up wild scenarios: "Is Char going to drop Axis to defeat Godzilla this time?" and "Are we actually going to see a dream match-up like Godzilla vs. the future Getter Robo team!?"
