Veteran British actor Andy Serkis, who has increasingly moved behind the camera in recent years, has directed a diverse slate of films, from the intimate romance "Breathe" to blockbusters like "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle" and "Venom: Let There Be Carnage." The impressive ensemble lending their voices to the film includes Seth Rogen, Kathleen Turner, Steve Buscemi, Glenn Close, Laverne Cox, recent Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actor Kieran Culkin, Woody Harrelson (who previously worked with Serkis on "Venom: Let There Be Carnage"), Jim Parsons ("Sheldon" from "The Big Bang Theory"), Gaten Matarazzo ("Dustin" from "Stranger Things"), Marvel's "Ms. Marvel" star Iman Vellani, and Serkis himself.

The film is based on George Orwell's classic novel of the same name, with the screenplay penned by Nicholas Stoller, known for directing the "Neighbors" film series. This iteration of "Animal Farm" began development as early as 2011. Rupert Wyatt, who directed Serkis in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," was initially attached to direct, with Serkis serving as co-writer. However, Wyatt later departed the project, leading Serkis to take over the directorial reins. Serkis initially envisioned the film as a live-action feature utilizing his expertise in motion-capture technology, but it ultimately evolved into its current animated form.
Wyatt now serves as a producer alongside Serkis, voice actor Harrelson, and Matt Reeves, who directed Serkis in two "Planet of the Apes" sequels and the 2022 film "The Batman." The film is slated for a North American release on July 11 this year.
