X User Brings Game Boy Camera to Osaka Expo, Delivers Retro Vibes and Nostalgia-Packed Photos!

The highly anticipated 2025 Osaka World Expo officially kicked off in April, promising a half-year run that's already drawing massive crowds and global attention to its diverse international exhibits.

Near the Expo entrance stands the colossal and eye-catching "Myaku-Myaku" statue, a popular photo op for countless visitors. But one X user decided to ditch modern tech for something truly special: a Game Boy Camera! The fact that this 27-year-old gadget is still kicking and capturing moments left many netizens absolutely stunned.

Released in 1998, the Game Boy Camera was an accessory that plugged right into the console, just like a game cartridge. It captured monochrome images at a low resolution, featuring a camera unit that popped up and could rotate 180 degrees for selfies. It even boasted self-timer and pseudo-panorama functions. Back then, camera phones weren't even a thing, let alone snapping casual photos on the go.

As you can see from the photos he shared, despite the super low resolution, the images have an undeniable charm and are absolutely dripping with nostalgia.

Turns out, Yuichiro has always been a fan of cameras and quirky electronic gadgets. He once saw a friend out and about with a Game Boy Color, a Game Boy Camera, and a printer, and was so captivated by the vibe that he decided to dive into the world of retro photography himself.

After getting his Game Boy serviced for new parts and tracking down a Game Boy Camera, he started carrying the setup around about a month ago. He hadn't actually taken any photos yet, but thought, "It'd be cool to capture some fun moments and make memories," which is why he decided to bring it to the Expo.

The moment he entered the venue and spotted the giant "Myaku-Myaku" statue, he immediately snapped a shot. Even though it was taken with a Game Boy, he was thrilled with the result, exclaiming, "It turned out way better than I expected! This photo really captures the feeling of 'I was at the Expo!'"

A 27-year-old camera becoming the tool to document the Osaka Expo – talk about a romantic juxtaposition! His post went viral, racking up over 60,000 likes as it triggered a flood of youthful memories for many netizens, who reveled in the nostalgia of this "past meets present" moment. If you've got a well-preserved Game Boy lying around, maybe it's time to dig up a Game Boy Camera and give it a whirl!
