Disney has announced a series of significant scheduling adjustments for several of its highly anticipated sequels slated for release over the next two years. "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty," the fifth installment in the blockbuster franchise, has been pushed from its original May 1, 2026, premiere to December 18, 2026. Following suit, "Avengers: Secret Wars," the sixth film, moves from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027. Both films are now shifting from prime summer release windows to holiday season debuts.
The May 1, 2026, slot vacated by "The Kang Dynasty" won't remain empty for long, as Disney has promptly scheduled the sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada" for that date. The follow-up film was officially announced to be in development last year.

In other Disney news, Ridley Scott's post-apocalyptic sci-fi feature, "The Dog Stars," is now slated for a March 27, 2027, release. Additionally, ahead of "Avatar 3's" premiere on December 19, 2027, "Avatar: The Way of Water" will return to theaters for an exclusive IMAX and 3D re-release on October 3, 2027. This strategy mirrors the successful re-release of the original "Avatar" film prior to "The Way of Water's" theatrical debut.
Outside of Disney, Lionsgate's CEO revealed during today's fourth-quarter earnings call that the Michael Jackson biopic "Michael" is likely to be delayed until 2027. The film, which was originally planned for an October 3, 2026, release, has reportedly required extensive reshoots due to sensitive contractual limitations, with an official announcement regarding the delay expected in the coming weeks.
