HBO's anthology crime series "True Detective" has now reached its fourth season, with a fifth already in the works. While the show introduces a new pair of detectives each season, the fan-favorite duo remains Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson from the acclaimed first season. Many viewers have hoped for a continuation of their story, and now, Nic Pizzolatto (pictured below), the creator of the show's first three seasons, has revealed he's already planning for it.

Speaking on the podcast "Nothing Left Unsaid," Pizzolatto revealed, "I actually have another story for Cohle and Hart, and who knows, maybe we'll get to do it one day. It would be character-driven again, but I don't mean that I've actually written it, it's just an idea in my head. We've also talked about reuniting to shoot it, and I think they're both [McConaughey and Harrelson] open to it. The main thing is just whether it will come to fruition."

Pizzolatto also explained on the podcast why he wasn't involved in the fourth and fifth seasons. He stated he had grown tired of dealing with the series' heavy, dark elements and had also just gained custody of his daughter, requiring him to focus on her and turn down a significant amount of work. Pizzolatto added that he believes HBO's decision to continue with seasons four and five without him was the right one.
