Argentinian author Manuel Puig's 1976 novel "Kiss of the Spider Woman" was famously adapted into a film in 1985. Now, nearly 40 years later, a second feature adaptation is set to hit North American theaters, and the film's first trailer has just been released.

This new version is written and directed by Bill Condon, known for helming Disney's live-action "Beauty and the Beast." Condon is no stranger to movie musicals, having penned the screenplay for "Chicago" and directed "Dreamgirls." This adaptation of "Kiss of the Spider Woman" is presented as a musical, playing directly to Condon's strengths.

The film's cast includes Will Fitz, Diego Luna, Jennifer Lopez, and Tonatiuh Elizarraraz. Lopez's ex-husband Ben Affleck and his partner Matt Damon are also on board as producers through their Artists Equity banner.

Set in an Argentinian prison in 1981, the new "Kiss of the Spider Woman" follows Luis, a gay hairdresser sentenced to eight years behind bars. To escape the horrors of his confinement, Luis invents a glamorous movie star named Aurora and imagines her in a series of films. Among her roles is the titular Spider Woman, a character who kills her prey with a deadly kiss.
